Hi Nurses
How do you respond when people ask for your personal diagnosis outside of a clinical setting?

Thank you for your answers.

I literally responded that I’m not a nurse unless I’m on the clock

To my family members, I give them my opinion about their problem and recommendations about seeing a doctor, the strangers, I wouldn’t, for liability reasons

I always preface it with, I’m not a doctor but…. This it was it looks like or, I would try XYZ…..or get your booty to the ER!

I have been an LPN for more than 30 years. My family and neighbors all know and come to me for advice all the time. Since Google was invited it died down a lot. I would always advise them to seek medical attention etc…I would explain I am not a doctor but try this or that!!

My instructor always said, to say I’m not a doctor.    I would make an appointment to see your doctor.  They have more tools at their disposal than I do.
